Replicas, Fakes, and Other Dilemmas

     Chapter nineteen presents clubs made today with the intention of looking like they were made a century or more ago. Sometimes such clubs are sold as replicas, other times they are sold as the real deal. This chapter provides warnings, ways to detect replicas and frauds, and example of existing fakes and replicas.

  • This is a replica of a wood from the Troon clubs, which many collectors believe to be the oldest woods known. Prior to the publication of "The Clubmaker's Art", one price guide showed a picture of a replica Troon club, incorrectly identified it as "circa late 1700's" and assigned it a value of "$100,000+" .
