Clubhead Materials

Chapter nine documents those "woods" made from brass, aluminum, steel, gutta percha, celluloid, condensite, compressed wood, pyralin, vulcanite, fiber, and hornite. Putters made from the same materials as well as from sterling silver, gunmetal, horn, fiber, ebony, and other materials are also presented. This chapter also introduces combination heads (those clubs made from two or more different materials) and face materials.

  • This is the first metalwood ever patented. Covered under William Currie's British patent dated April 3, 1891, this driver is made from brass with red gutta percha inserted at the face.
